I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend after our Stay and Play week :-) All the children thoroughly enjoyed having parents come to school as did the teachers. I hope you managed to get a good look round and see all the fun things your children get to do at school. Any questions/suggestions/ideas please feel free to leave a comment on the blog for us.
PHONICS
Next week in phonics we are continuing with our segmenting and blending skills to help children become confident readers and writers. We will be looking at pictures and trying to write down the word for them by segmenting the sounds we can hear. We will also be reading words and matching them with pictures to practice our comprehension skills. If you would like to try any of these ideas at home it will strengthen your child's understanding and help them with their reading and writing skills.
We will also be learning our final alphabet letter sound - Z. There will be a new song and action for the children to learn.
READING BOOKS
Please leave comments in the green reading diary every time you hear your child read so we know they have read and finished their book at home. We aim to change reading books every Monday and Friday. Some children are struggling with character names still and also knowing who is who. Please practise these at home as much as you can. We don't look at the formation of capital letters yet in Reception so some children are struggling knowing what the sound is for B in Biff and D in dad etc. We also haven't learnt the /ch/ sound for Chip, so please just keep reminding them of who is who and use your list of character names so children will recognise them and be able to read them without needing to try and sound them out.
We will be sending home lists of words to practise reading as well each week (List 1 was given out last week). The more reading opportunities you can present to your child, the stronger they will become at reading. Magazines around the house, street signs, food labels, song lyrics etc. Reading to them is also a great way to strengthen their knowledge and understanding, this could be a book or even helping you gather ingredients from a recipe.
Thank you for all your continued support and enthusiasm :-D
Hi, Just want to say I was really impressed with the content of the class and activities for the children to enjoy during breaks.
ReplyDeleteJames absolutely loves school and it's easy to see why.
