Phonics: This week we will be learning four new letter sounds d - r - n - m. We are following the Letters and Sounds programme, but learning the letter sounds through Jolly Phonics. Each letter has an action to go with the sound to help your children remember it. We will send home a sheet outlining the action for each letter so you can help at home. So far we have learned s - a - t - i - l - u - y - c - o - g. This week we will introducing 'Blending for Reading' using short VC (Vowel/Consonant) words such as 'at', 'in', 'it', 'on'. The children will be shown how to 'sound talk' these words using sound buttons. Alongside this we will also be practicing our Oral Blending and Segmenting. You can help your child at home, by using 'sound talk' with them - For example 'It's time for b-e-d.', Lets brush your t-ee-th', etc
Number: This week we will be learning how to count small sets of objects accuratly. We will be teaching them to line objects up and then count each one as they touch it. Alongside this we will also be ordering our numbers 1-5 and continuing to practice forming the numbers correctly. You can help your children at home by practicing forming the numbers using the number rhymes. You can also find as many opportunites to count objects, setting the table, counting the stairs etc.
The children have also been learning about Harvest in preperation for our Harvest Concert on Friday 12th October. We have looked at Combine Harvetsers and talked about what they do. We have also learned 'The Big Red Combine Harvester' song. I'm sure you may have heard your child 'Chug, chug, chug, chug, chugging away!!! Alongside Harvest we will also begin looking Autumnal changes, so feel free to let your child bring leaves, twigs and conkers into school for us to look at!! If your child as any books/stories related to the above they can bring those in too to further enhance their learning.
